Palisade Tribune History 50 Years Ago: U.S. Senate Candidate Visits In Palisade

The Palisade Tribune, March 15, 1974, p. 1

Gary Hart, a Democratic candidate for the Senate from Colorado, spent last weekend on the Western Slope meeting and talking to Democrats on the issues he considers to be important for the forthcoming election. Hart, if he receives the Democratic nod, will be opposing Senator Peter Dominic, Republican.

On Sunday, Hart spoke at a coffee at the offices of the Rocky Mountain West Realty, to a large crowd of local people. Three issues that he feels are critically important are economic factors – in particular the burden of inflation coupled with an unfair tax system; honesty in government – Hart believes that government has gotten too far separated from the people; and the quality of life in Colorado and the Nation.

Hart answered questions from the audience.

Howard Roland, candidate for County Commissioner, was present and spoke to the group. Also Paul Martin, who has not announced but is showing an interest in the race for the State House of Representatives.
